In an effort to keeping Showdown fresh, this year there will be a few changes to the game. Each week, Janet will put a section from her UK pop charts against DJ’s US equivalent from the current week in a bygone year. and ask you, the listening audience to vote on who has the better song in each pairing, by sending a tweet to either @Tuglets or @DJ_Frabs. That stuff is still the same.
Here’s the different stuff, rather than comparing number 1 singles from decades past, they’ll be comparing Selections from the top 5 albums for the chart year they’re doing.
Each of 5 rounds will consist of 3 pairings. The first 3 rounds are worth 7 points. Rounds 4 and 5 are each worth 10 points, for a total of 41 points. In the event of a tie during a pairing, the points will be rolled over to the next paring. If this roll over ends on a tie, Janet will flip a virtual coin, and the winner will score the points for the 2 rollover pairings. The chart with the most points at the end of the show is the winner and they get to go first in next week’s pairings.
And of course, there will be the usual banter and bickering from janet and DJ about who’s chart is the best, even though we all know Dj does.
